African breadfruit, also known as Treculia africana, is a species of flowering plant native to tropical Africa. It belongs to the family Moraceae, the same family as the common breadfruit (Artocarpus altilis). However, despite the similarity in name, African breadfruit is not closely related to the breadfruit commonly found in the Pacific Islands.

African breadfruit produces large, round fruits that can reach the size of a soccer ball. The fruit is typically green when immature and turns yellow-orange when ripe. It is known for its starchy pulp, which is rich in nutrients and often used as a food source in many parts of Africa. The seeds of the African breadfruit are also edible and are often roasted, boiled, or ground into flour to make a variety of dishes such as porridge, soups, and snacks.

African breadfruit trees are valued not only for their edible fruits but also for their potential in agroforestry systems and for their use in traditional medicine.
